Committed to going above and beyond.

The Clean-Crafted Commitment® is a lot of things — a hero for healthy soil, a sworn enemy of anything artificial, a sulfite snob, a ruthless double-checker — but above all: it's an unsurpassed quality standard in winemaking.

The pillars of the Clean-Crafted Commitment®

The Clean-Crafted Commitment® is rooted in three key pillars — foundational principles that guide the creation and delivery of all our products. When it comes to fully wrapping your brain around our standard, there's no better place to start than here.

Wine must be made using grapes grown in healthy soil.
Wine must be made simply, with no sugar.
Wine must be tested for both purity and flavor.

The Soil-to-Sip Report™

The Clean-Crafted Commitment® sounds great, but can you know for sure? Enter the Soil-to-Sip Report™, an in-depth product detail breakout that includes the wine ingredients, fermenting, aging and bottling processes, as well as nutritional content.

Diving a little deeper.

What is the Clean-Crafted Commitment®?

Our Clean-Crafted Commitment® is a rigorous standard for creating delicious, high-quality wines using sustainable practices and no artificial ingredients. It goes beyond organic requirements and includes:

  • Grapes grown in healthy soil, tested for over 175 commonly used pesticides, including glyphosate.
  • No added sugar or artificial ingredients during winemaking.
  • Sulfites kept under 100ppm, confirmed with third-party lab tests.

Every wine must pass lab testing and a final taste test from our in-house wine team to ensure it meets our standards, and yours.

How do you ensure your Clean-Crafted Commitment® is upheld?

We conduct independent, third-party lab testing and thorough audits of all grower and production partners. Our internal team reviews growing, production, and processing records to confirm compliance. We also re-audit partners as needed and evolve our standards as new research emerges.

Do you produce your own wines?

We work with both small and large growers to produce wines at our partners' facilities and our own. We also source finished wine that meets our Clean-Crafted Commitment®. Every wine we bottle undergoes rigorous audits and testing to ensure it meets our high standards.

What makes Scout & Cellar wines different?

It starts with our Clean-Crafted Commitment®. Every wine we offer is lab-tested by a third party for pesticides and sulfites. We also audit our partners to ensure sustainable farming and production practices that go above and beyond industry standards.

What happens if a wine sample doesn't pass your testing?

We don't use it. If a wine fails our internal standards, we won't bring it to market. Our grower and production partners are free to sell that wine elsewhere, so it doesn't go to waste.

What kind of testing is performed?

We test every wine in three key ways:

  • Pesticides: Third-party testing for 175+ synthetic pesticides.
  • Sulfites: Verified to be under 100ppm.
  • Taste: In-house sensory testing to ensure every wine is delicious.
Why are sulfites used in wine?

Sulfites occur naturally in grapes and are often added to preserve freshness and prevent oxidation. Sulfite-free wine doesn’t exist, but we test every wine to ensure levels stay below 100ppm — aligned with the Demeter® Biodynamic® standard.

Do you allow any pesticides?

We prohibit all synthetic pesticides. However, like USDA Organic standards, we allow certain natural pesticides such as cinnamon oil, garlic oil, rosemary oil, and diatomaceous earth, when necessary.

Do you allow GMOs?

No. GMOs are prohibited at all stages of wine production, including in grapes and processing agents. While we don’t require third-party non-GMO certification, our audits verify compliance.

Are your vineyards certified USDA Organic?

Some are, but not all. Certification can be cost-prohibitive for small farms. Many of our partners meet or exceed USDA Organic standards but may not carry certification. We choose to support these responsible growers through our own audits and testing.

How does the Clean-Crafted Commitment® differ from USDA Organic?

Our Commitment goes further by requiring finished-product testing and strict audits of our partners. Some ingredients allowed under USDA Organic are not permitted under our standards.

How do you plan to stay sustainable as you grow?

Growth gives us the opportunity to drive change. The more demand we create for Clean-Crafted™ wines, the more we can influence the industry. We remain committed to holding every partner to our high standards, regardless of scale.

What is your commitment to transparency?

Transparency is one of our core values. Every wine we make includes an ingredient list on the label and comes with a Soil to Sip® report — a detailed overview of each product. This level of transparency is rare in the wine world, and we’re proud to lead the way.
